Kensington Expert Mouse Drivers For Mac

My Kensignton Trackball EXPERT wired 'mouse' worked like a charm for years on my 5 yo MacBook Pro 2012, even after migrating to macOS High Sierra. However, after a Hardware and Software upgrade to MacBook Pro 2017 with macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 (using TimeMachine), my Trackball 'worked' but I had lost the ability to configure the various buttons and features of the EXPERT device. It appears that the TRACKBALLWORKS App was not responding well. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the appropriate device drivers and application. But still received the error message:. I finally reached the Kensington support group by phone and the support rep walked me through all the changes needed in SYSTEM PREFERENCES to get it working AGAIN!!

(Too numerous to itemize here.) According to the support rep, there are changes in macOS High Sierra that are causing a flood of support calls to Kensington to help resolve the issue. The fix (including a reboot or two) took about 15 minutes. Here's a happy screenshot. After the help: Cheers! I know this is a discussion about MacBooks, but I just purchased an iMacPro (High Sierra 10.13.3) and I'm having this problem every morning when I start up. Reinstalling the Kensington software did not make a difference.

My solution has just been to unplug my Kensington Slimblade and plug it back in after startup. It always does the trick. It's a simple but really annoying fix - especially since the iMacPro's USB ports are all on the back of the machine, requiring the ol' iMac reach-around. It seems like there is something in the order that things come on line when the system boots.

I did not have this problem with an old MacPro Tower (Fall 2010) that I had been using up until last week. Here is the fix: Thank you for contacting Kensington Technical Support.

We appreciate your patience. Kensington Computer Products Group CHEERS! I had the same problem, also with High Sierra. I was using a Kensington Orbit which was plugged in through a USB hub throughout the installation process. The previous suggestions gave me some ideas, which ultimately worked.

However, that a Kensington support rep would suggest downloading drivers from and then disabling your security settings in order to install it sounds suspect, to say the least. Here's what I did:. Download the latest driver from (links at bottom of page):. Go to System Preferences Control/Right-click on TrackballWorks Remove. Unplug the trackball. Restart the Mac. Install the driver software.

Click Restart as instructed at the end of the installation. After restart, go to System Preferences TrackballWorks.

It'll still say 'no supported trackball found' because it's unplugged. Plug the trackball directly into the Mac. Do not go through a USB hub. For me, TrackballWorks recognized my trackball. I wish you the best. I then unplugged it from my Mac and replugged it into my USB hub. It recognized the trackball just fine.

I know this is a discussion about MacBooks, but I just purchased an iMacPro (High Sierra 10.13.3) and I'm having this problem every morning when I start up. It seems like there is something in the order that things come on line when the system boots. I did not have this problem with an old MacPro Tower (Fall 2010) that I had been using up until last week. I have the same problem.I too have just purchased an IMac Pro and I have to do exactly the same. Unplug and then replug the USB back in and Trackball works then recognises my Slimblade. I have been on to Kensington and I have gone through there checklists etc.uninstalling, driver downloads, Trackballworks helper checked.

You name it but still have the same problem Trackball works will not recognise after power off or start up. Could you or anyone who might find out a fix please help?I can keep unplugging the USB in thew short term but that is not a fix it will end up scratching the IMac Pro or maybe damaging the USB. @zakwax I recently added a USB hub (TP-LINK UH720 USB 3.0 7-Port Hub) so I could attach more devices to my iMacPro and so I don't have to reach to the back of the machine to do so. With the Slimblade plugged in to the hub instead of directly into the iMacPro, it now works right when I start up. This seems to be more evidence that the issue has something to do with the order in which devices are recognized and that drivers are loaded. It's my guess that the split second longer it takes for the trackball to be recognized through the hub allows time for the driver to load and be ready for the trackball when it comes online.

My advice for iMac Pro users, go through the steps listed above to ensure that old Kensington drivers are uninstalled and the new drivers are installed and then add a hub to the chain. Hi Firstly really appreciate the reply.I have still had no luck with my problem with the slimblade and am still unplugging an plugging back in after start up ( not ideal! ) I am going to give your Hub advice a go because I'm desperate to sort this.although to be honest I'm still a little fustrated after the big spend on the Imac to have to buy a usb hub for my mouse to work but hey. It is what is is I guess. It does sound logical about what you said about the trackballworks needing that split second maybe to get recognised. If you don't mind could I get your advice on a USB Hub as I have never purchased one.do they cause any type of latency or any other problems with other devices?I run a lot of music software and have external keyboards using USB conections. Many thanks if you can help.

This actually did NOT work. I have a brand new Macbook Pro 2018. In fact, Apple techs have now confirmed that it is a Firmware issue from Kensington. In fact, their software and product completely shut down my computer and we could not get back in.

And I mean could not get back on including not even into safe mode, nor recovery. I had to race to the Apple store for them to run several things including re-installing my operating system once we could get back in. Once back in, the tech could see the error message of not seeing the Wireless trackball and was able to determine this is a firmware issue.
