A bold, bright roof color may be great for your taste, but it's not everybody’s cup of tea. If you are thinking about selling your home in the near future, go with a more neutral roofing material to protect your resale value. I have seen homes where the buyers love the inside of a home but are turned off by the roof. I think green shingles are a great look on the right home, but if it does not appeal to the majority of your buyers, you may have a harder time selling your home. However, if you're planning on staying put, a bold, rich color on a roof can really add character and charm to your home.

I love the look of a black roof, but I'm afraid it might've too drastic of a change as I'm used to an extremely light gray roof with my white siding (which I feel looks too washed out). My house was built in the late 30s and is small with a relatively steep roof and there are shutters on the windows that I could paint black to match, however, I'm afraid of getting stuck in a black/white color scheme.

I could always play with color for the front door, though. I'm looking to stay with a cottagey-type feel, meaning casual and whimsical. Will black and white end up looking too formal? Maybe I could paint the shutters a color other than simply black? Thank you for any help. I have a ranch house with a low pitch roof and the existing shingles are cedar in color (dimensional design GAF Timberline) which need replacing.

It is a brick front which are light gold in color. I would like to go with another color roof but I am having difficulty in deciding. Any suggestions? I have black landscaping lighting, black light fixtures, black house numbers and black mailbox. Shutters, windows, door and railing are white. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
